Episode 10: SOCKTOBER SPECIAL - Methods and techniques for knitting your first socks + free pattern
Gemma AdevaTenth episode already! I can't believe it 😀
I'm continuing full steam ahead with Socktober, and in this episode, I'm going to give you all the tools you need to knit your first pair of socks. You'll learn all the different techniques and ways to knit socks, which patterns and online courses are perfect for getting started or learning more. I've also included a super-complete downloadable pattern so you have no excuse. You can make socks in any size you need and use them as a base for designing if you'd like. You'll find the pattern at the end of this post, in the episode notes.
NOTES FOR THIS EPISODE
– All the details about this year 's Barcelona Knits . You'll find a 15% discount in the online store during the fair weekend, November 6th and 7th.
– I’m almost done with the Spooky KAL at The Knit Cafe . The yarn I used for my Spooky Socks is this one , in color 3861 + a mini I dyed from this year’s Halloween collection. Here is the tutorial I followed to modify the heel and I’m very happy with it.
– Bien Aimée Mondim is the yarn I'm using to knit my fade sweater in shades 15 and 23. As soon as I'm more advanced, I'll look for testers.
– The pattern for my second scrap blanket is the Jelly Roll Blanket by Bakery Bears.
– Recommend me your favorite stole or wrap patterns ! I need ideas for a gift 😉
– Series and movies mentioned on Knitflix: Sex Education, Cinderella (on Prime Video). You can see my recommendations for movies and series to watch this Halloween in this post .
– The English patterns I recommend for knitting your first socks are those by Crazy Sock Lady (they open on Ravelry): with double pointed needles , with magic loop , with mini circulars and in DK weight .
– As for courses on Craftsy, I recommend for beginners My First Toe-Up Socks , Essential Skills For Sock Knitting and Knit Socks: Two at a Time . And for those who are more advanced or want to design their own socks Next Steps in Socks , Socks My Way: Stitch Pattern Savvy and Socks My Way: Heel & Toe Variations .
– Download the pattern I've prepared for you to knit your socks from this link . It's a super complete and detailed tutorial for knitting socks in any size. Once you've mastered the technique, it's a good basic pattern that you can use as a guide to design your socks. I hope you find it useful!
